How Purchases Grant User Groups
Each product has two lists of Joomla user groups, on its Actions tab, and each level has the same two lists, under Access:
- Add To User Groups (a level's Add groups)
-
Added to the customer when an Access Subscription to the product starts.
- Remove From User Groups (a level's Remove groups)
-
Taken away when an Access Subscription to the product ends.
Important
A group is only taken away if it is in the remove list. For access that lasts only as long as the customer pays, put the same group in both lists. A group that is only in the add list stays with the customer for good, which is what you want for something like a “Customers” group that marks anyone who has ever bought.
A product grants its own groups and its level's together. Use the level for what all its products share, such as a support tier, and the product for what is specific to it, such as access to one platform's downloads.
Removing never takes away what another purchase still gives. When one Access Subscription ends, PaddleSubs keeps every group that the customer's other active Access Subscriptions add, from any product, level or import. A customer with two products that share a group keeps it until both have ended.
Groups are only changed when access starts or ends. If you change a product's or level's groups later, customers who already have it are not changed until you run the Resync user groups task. Editing an Access Subscription by hand doesn't change groups either; the lifecycle task does, the next time it runs (see the section called “Extend, Shorten or End Someone's Access”).
A group whose members are Super Users is never added or removed by a purchase, and isn't offered in these lists. Changing the lists needs the Assign user groups permission.
Joomla then does the rest. Give your protected articles, categories, menu items and modules an access level that includes the group, and only customers with active access can see them.
