Chapter 13. Emails Reference

Abstract

Every email PaddleSubs sends: when, to whom, and the tags you can use when you edit it.

PaddleSubs sends its own emails about access: when it starts, when it is about to end, when it ends, and when a refund changes it. Paddle sends its own about money: receipts, invoices, failed payments and renewal notices. A customer who buys usually gets one email from each.

Emails are sent to the email address of the customer's Joomla account, in Joomla's mail settings, and are recorded only when sending succeeds. If sending fails, the purchase or change still happens; the failure is logged.

Editing the Emails

PaddleSubs' emails are Joomla mail templates. Go to System → Mail Templates, choose PaddleSubs in the extension filter, and edit a template for each language your site uses. Each template is listed by a title starting with PaddleSubs:; this chapter gives the rest of the title in brackets after the template's id. The subject and body can use the tags listed for each template, written in braces, such as {PRODUCT}. The default wording comes from the language files, so a template you haven't edited follows updates to them.

Every template has {NAME} (the customer's name) and {SITENAME}. Most also have {BILLING_PORTAL_URL}, the address of your Billing Portal page. The reminders and the expiry email have {PRODUCT_CHECKOUT_URL}, the address of the product's page where the customer buys it again; for a licensed product it renews that license, as the Renew link on the customer's licenses page does. A custom product has no page, so for it the tag is the address of the customer's My Access Subscriptions page.

The reminders and the expiry email say "renew using the link below" also for a custom product, whose link only lists the customer's access. There is no separate wording for deals renewed by invoice yet.

The templates are created on install and update, and removed when PaddleSubs is uninstalled.
