Chapter 8. How-to Guides

Control Who Can Do What

PaddleSubs uses Joomla's permissions. Set them in Options on the Permissions tab, for each user group. Joomla's own actions cover entering PaddleSubs and the catalog. PaddleSubs adds its own actions for anything that gives access, touches money or customers' accounts, or changes user groups.

ActionWhat it allows
Configure ACL & OptionsPermissions and options, the Paddle keys on the Get Started page, offline mode, and activating the site on your license.
Configure OptionsThe options, without the permissions.
Access Administration InterfaceOpening PaddleSubs: the catalog pages, the Access Subscriptions and Licenses lists, read only.
Create, Edit, Edit State, DeleteThe catalog: products, prices, levels, discounts and discount groups, which are saved to Paddle too. A product category can narrow them for its products.
Assign user groupsChanging the user groups a product or level adds and removes. Without it the lists are shown but can't be changed.
Grant accessCreating, changing, publishing, trashing and deleting Access Subscriptions by hand, including granting a licensed product with a license.
View salesThe Transactions page and the dashboard's Statistics and Sales Graphs.
Charge customersPayment links and invoices, and changing draft transactions.
Manage customersThe Needs Attention page and Sync from Paddle. Users with it who receive system emails are sent the customer conflict alerts.
Manage licensesReleasing a customer's site and granting a site change on the Licenses page.
Import from another systemThe import wizard, and undoing imports.
Read licenses (API), Activate sites (API), Release sites (API)For the user your licensing software signs in as; see the section called “Tokens, Service Users and Permissions”.

Out of the box only Super Users hold PaddleSubs' own actions; Joomla's actions follow the site's global permissions as usual. A page or button needing an action you don't have isn't shown, and a link to it answers You don't have permission to access this.

Procedure 8.6. Let a group of staff handle customers without changing the catalog
  1. Create the group in Users → Groups, for example Shop Support, under Registered, and give it an access level that allows signing in to the administrator (System → Global Configuration → Permissions, Administrator Login: Allowed).

  2. In PaddleSubs' Options, Permissions tab, select the group and set Access Administration Interface, View sales, Manage customers and Manage licenses to Allowed. Leave the others as they are.

  3. Save, then sign in as a member of the group to check: the Transactions, Needs Attention and Licenses pages work, and the products can be opened but not saved.

Product categories have their own permissions, in each category's Permissions tab: Create, Edit, Edit State and Delete. A category inherits them from its parent and, at the top, from PaddleSubs' options, so set one only to narrow or widen what a group may do with the products in it. Moving a product into a category needs Create there.

Note

A group whose members are Super Users is never offered in a product's or level's groups, and a purchase never adds anyone to such a group or takes anyone out of it, whatever the product says. So nobody can make themselves a Super User by selling or granting themselves a product.
