Chapter 9. The Admin Pages

The New Payment Link or Invoice Page

Starts a purchase your site doesn't offer, such as a custom price made for one customer, or any other price you want to sell by hand. Open it from New Payment Link or Invoice on the Transactions page, shown to users with the Charge customers permission. PaddleSubs must be online, with an API key for the environment you're in.

Price

Every price of the environment, grouped by product, with custom ones marked. The customer buys one unit.

How the Customer Pays

Payment link creates a Paddle checkout for the price and gives you its link to send the customer. Invoice has Paddle issue an invoice and email it to the customer, to pay by bank transfer, or by card when Let the Customer Pay by Card is ticked.

Customer

Email, Name, Country Code (two letters, such as US), Postal Code, Address, City, Region, Business Name and Tax Number. A payment link needs none of them: the customer enters their details at the checkout, and an email address only fills it in. An invoice needs the email address and the country; Paddle asks for a postal code too in some countries, such as the US. PaddleSubs uses the customer Paddle has with that email address, or creates one, and likewise one of its addresses and businesses that matches what you typed.

Invoice

Shown for an invoice: Days to Pay (1 to 365, 30 to start with), Purchase Order Number, a Note on the Invoice and Let the Customer Pay by Card. Paddle issues invoices only in USD, EUR and GBP, so the price must be in one of them.

Create creates the transaction in Paddle and shows it: its Transaction ID, Status, the Invoice Number of an invoice, and the Payment Link with Copy. An invoice is issued at once, so Paddle numbers it and emails it straight away; it can't be changed afterwards, only canceled in Paddle. If Paddle or a rule refuses, the page says why and keeps what you typed.

The payment link, and the card payment on an invoice, open a Paddle checkout on your site's Pay page. When the customer pays, Paddle sends its webhook and PaddleSubs grants the purchase as it does one made on the site, connecting the customer to an account by email or creating one (see the section called “How Paddle Customers Become Joomla Users”). Until then the transaction is listed on the Transactions page as Draft, Ready or Billed.

Not yet checked against Paddle: whether Paddle accepts the Pay page's address when it already has a query string (a site without search engine friendly URLs), and how it adds the transaction to it. See the section called “Cases Not Yet Checked Against Paddle”.
