Chapter 8. How-to Guides

Show Content Only to Customers

With the Content - PaddleSubs Restricted plugin enabled, wrap content in {paddlesubs …} and {/paddlesubs}. The content shows only to logged-in visitors for whom the condition is true:

Opening tagShows the content to
{paddlesubs gold-membership}customers with active access to that product
{paddlesubs gold || platinum}customers with either product
{paddlesubs course && workbook}customers with both
{paddlesubs !gold-membership}logged-in visitors without active access to it
{paddlesubs *}customers with active access to any product

&& is worked out before ||, so a || b && c means “a, or both b and c”. Products can be named by slug or by ID. Access comes from the visitor's published Access Subscriptions, including imported ones.

Caution

Content between the tags never shows to visitors who aren't logged in, even with !. For a message to guests, use a module or article with the Guest access level instead.

The content is also left out of the site's feeds (with the System - PaddleSubs plugin enabled) and of Smart Search results. An extension that shows an article's text without running Joomla's content plugins, such as some newsletter or social sharing extensions, shows the tags and the content between them as typed: check what yours do, or use an access level.

To hide a whole article, category, menu item or module, use a Joomla access level that includes the product's group instead, as in the section called “Step 5: Protect the Members' Articles”. The tags hide content inside a page that everyone can open.
