Chapter 9. The Admin Pages

Granting Access by Hand

To give someone access without a purchase, for example a prize, a reviewer's copy or a customer you are making amends to, click New on the Access Subscriptions page, or the + (Add Access Subscription) beside Access Subscriptions in the administrator menu.

  1. Choose the User and the Price. Prices are listed under their products.

  2. For a licensed product, choose its license. Leave Add to License empty to give the user a new license, and set Sites to the number of sites it covers, or leave it empty for the product's Sites per purchase. To add the access to a license the user already has for the product, enter its number from the # column of the Licenses page and leave Sites empty: that license keeps its sites. Leave both empty for any other product.

  3. Set Starts, or leave it empty to start now. It can't be later than now.

  4. Set Ends, or leave it empty for lifetime access. Add a Note to remember why.

  5. Click Save & Close. The new row shows Granted by and your name.

Granted access is published at once, and the user gets the groups the product and its level grant. Nothing is sent to Paddle, and no email is sent. When it ends, the Access subscription lifecycle task unpublishes it and takes the groups away, unless something else the user holds still grants them. For a product whose purchases stack, a later purchase starts when the granted access ends. To end it early, unpublish it, or edit Ends.

Access to a licensed product comes with its license, as a purchase's does. The license is active while the granted access is, and its History on the Licenses page says granted with your name. The customer finds it on their licenses page with a Renew link, and a renewal starts when the granted access ends. When the granted access ends and nothing else covers the license, the license expires like a bought one: its sites stay reserved for the grace period, so a renewal gets them back.

Granted access can't start in the future, since nothing would publish it when its start came, and it gets no expiry reminders, like imported access.
