Chapter 7. Importing From Another Subscription System
Bring the customers, products, prices and access of a system you are leaving, such as Akeeba Subscriptions or another PaddleSubs site, into PaddleSubs, so customers keep their accounts and the access they paid for.
What an Import Does and Doesn't Do
The import wizard reads four things from another subscription system: its users, its products, its prices, and its access (who had access to which price, from when until when). Each access row becomes an imported Access Subscription. Customers keep their Joomla accounts, their passwords and the time they paid for. Payments are not imported. You can try an import first, see exactly what it would do, and undo a real one.
Imported Access Subscriptions are a little different from purchases made through Paddle:
-
Nothing about them is sent to Paddle. The customers are not created in Paddle, and no transactions are recorded. The source's amounts and payment history stay in the source.
-
Inside its window, or after it, a record is imported as the source has it: what was enabled stays enabled, and what was switched off stays off, since the old site's administrator knows why. Only a window that hasn't started is judged, because other systems have no pending state: access that is enabled, or switched off but paid for, such as a renewal paid in advance (in AkeebaSubs, a subscription that is disabled with the payment state
C), is imported pending. Anything else switched off stays unpublished. Take the dump once the old site has stopped selling, so it shows what you mean to carry over. The lifecycle task publishes pending access when its window opens, with its product's user groups, and new purchases stack behind published and pending access, as they do behind purchases. -
An import grants no user groups by itself, and undoing it takes none away. Run the Resync user groups task afterwards, as described in the section called “After the Import”.
-
When an imported Access Subscription's window ends, the lifecycle task unpublishes it and takes the product's groups away, like any other. It sends no email for it.
-
New purchases of the same product through Paddle stack after imported access, for products that stack.
Expiry reminders (ExpirationContactsRepository) only consider Access Subscriptions with a Paddle transaction, so imported customers get no reminder before their imported access ends. Say here whether they should, once decided.
