Paddle's Words and PaddleSubs' Words
Paddle and PaddleSubs both talk about subscriptions, and they don't mean the same thing. This book keeps them apart:
- Access Subscription
-
PaddleSubs' record that a customer has access to one of your products from one date to another. Every purchase creates one, whether the customer pays once or is billed again automatically. When the window ends, access ends, unless a renewal has created the next Access Subscription. Customers see theirs on the My Access Subscriptions page.
- Paddle subscription
-
A purchase that Paddle charges again automatically at the end of each billing period, such as every month or every year, until the customer cancels. Each charge is a new Paddle transaction, and each one creates a new Access Subscription for the period it pays for.
So a customer who pays once for a year has one Access Subscription and no Paddle subscription. A customer on a monthly plan has one Paddle subscription and a new Access Subscription every month.
A few more words come from Paddle and mean what Paddle means by them: a product is what you sell, a price is one way of paying for it, a transaction is one payment, and a customer is the person Paddle billed. Other words are PaddleSubs' own: a level groups products into tiers, and a license limits a purchase to a number of sites.
