Chapter 3. Getting Started

Test Everything in the Sandbox First

A Paddle sandbox account behaves like a live one, without real money. Paddle's documentation lists test card numbers you can pay with, such as 4242 4242 4242 4242 with any future expiry date, and in the sandbox you can also refund, cancel and renew whenever you like, and replay webhooks.

A few habits make testing go smoothly:

  • Buy as a logged-out visitor with a fresh email address, so you see what a new customer sees, including the new account PaddleSubs creates for them and its welcome email.

  • Run the scheduled tasks by hand rather than waiting: in System → Scheduled Tasks, click Run Test beside the task.

  • Give test prices a short period, such as one day, to see access start and end without waiting a month.

Tip

Paddle can only send webhooks to an address it can reach on the internet. If you test on your own computer, use a tunnelling service that gives it a public HTTPS address, and use that address in the notification destination.
